How do Google Ads work for a contractor?

Google Ads puts your business at the top of the results when someone searches for a service you offer. You choose the searches, the area and a daily budget. You pay only when someone clicks. For a local trade business the goal is simple: a call or a quote request from someone in your area who needs the job done soon.

The click goes to a page on your website, and that page decides whether the click becomes a call. That is why we look at the site before we take on the ads.

What makes contractor campaigns waste money

  • No location limit. Ads showing two states away because the default setting includes people "interested in" your area.
  • Broad keywords with no negatives. Paying for "concrete jobs hiring" or "how to pour a slab yourself".
  • No call tracking. Without it you know what you spent but not what you got.
  • Clicks sent to a slow home page. A visitor on a phone leaves if the page takes too long or the number is hard to find.

Every account we build starts by closing those four holes.

How we set up and run your account

  1. Free look. Your trade, your towns, who else is advertising and whether the budget you have in mind is realistic.
  2. Build. Campaigns per service, tight location targeting, call and form tracking, and a landing page that matches the ad.
  3. Launch and watch. In the first weeks we check search terms often and block the ones that waste money.
  4. Report and adjust. Each month you get cost per lead and what we changed.

Where your trade qualifies, we often suggest starting with Local Services Ads and adding search ads on top. More in Google Local Services Ads: how they work and whether they are worth it.

What does Google Ads management cost?

There are two separate costs. The ad budget goes straight to Google from your own account, and you set it. Our management fee is a fixed monthly number that we quote after the free look, because a one-truck business in a small town and a crew covering three counties need different amounts of work. There is no long contract, and the account and its data stay yours.

Questions about google Ads for contractors.

More answers on the FAQ page.

How much should a contractor spend on Google Ads?

It depends on your trade and area, because click prices vary a lot. We look at what clicks cost for your services in your towns and tell you what a sensible starting budget is before you spend anything.

Is the ad budget included in your fee?

No. You pay Google directly for the clicks, from an account in your name. Our fee is only for setting up and managing the campaigns.

Do I own the Google Ads account?

Yes. The account is created in your name and you keep it, with all its history, if we stop working together.

How fast will I get calls?

Ads can start showing the day they are approved. The first weeks are also when we learn which searches bring real jobs, so results usually improve over the first month or two.

Do I need a website to run Google Ads?

For search ads, yes. The click needs a page to land on. A focused landing page is enough to start.
