What local SEO includes.
Every site we build already has the basics done. This add-on is the ongoing work for businesses that want to climb further.
- Keyword researchWhat people in your area actually type when they need your trade, with real search volumes.
- Service and city pagesNew pages written for the jobs and towns you want more of.
- Google Business Profile workCategories, posts, photos and reviews kept in step with the website.
- Consistent listingsYour name, address and phone matched across Google, Facebook, Yelp and the main directories.
- Technical checksSpeed, indexing, schema and broken links checked and fixed.
- A monthly reportCalls, form leads and rankings in plain English, not a pile of charts.
What is local SEO?
Local SEO is the work of getting a business to show up when people nearby search for its services. For a contractor that means two places: the map results, which come from your Google Business Profile, and the regular results under the map, which come from your website. Local SEO covers both, plus the listings and reviews around the web that tell Google you are a real business in a real place.

What decides who shows up first
Google describes local ranking with three ideas: relevance, distance and prominence.
- Relevance. How well your profile and pages match what the person searched. A page titled for "driveway sealcoating in Parkersburg" is more relevant to that search than a general home page.
- Distance. How close you are to the searcher or to the town they typed. You cannot change this, but a clear service area helps.
- Prominence. How well known the business looks: reviews, links from other sites, mentions in directories.
Local SEO is steady work on the two you can influence.
What we do each month
- Month one: foundation. Keyword research, a check of the site and the profile, and a list of the pages worth building.
- Months two and three: pages and listings. New service and city pages go live, and your listings are corrected and matched.
- Every month after: build and measure. More pages where they pay off, reviews and posts on the profile, and a report on calls and positions.
SEO, Google Ads or Local Services Ads?
| Local SEO | Google Ads | Local Services Ads | |
|---|---|---|---|
| How you pay | Monthly work, no cost per click | Per click | Per lead |
| How fast it works | Months | Days | Days, after approval |
| What happens if you stop | Rankings usually hold for a while | Calls stop the same day | Calls stop the same day |
| Best for | Staying in one area for years | Calls this week | Trades that qualify for the badge |
Many businesses use ads to get calls now and SEO to need fewer ads later. See Google Ads management and our article on Local Services Ads.
How long does local SEO take?
Changes to a Business Profile and new reviews can show within weeks. New pages on a website usually need a few months to build up, and longer in a crowded trade or a big city. We say that before you start, and the monthly report shows whether it is moving.
What does local SEO cost?
It depends on how many competitors you have and how many towns you want to cover, so we do not sell it off a price list. We take a free look at your site, your profile and the businesses ranking above you, then send one fixed monthly number and what you should expect for it. If your site is the problem, we will tell you that first. You can check it yourself with our free Website Grader.
